MINNEAPOLIS, MN., April 22, 2010 — The new Frauenshuh Cancer Center at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification status by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The Frauenshuh Cancer Center, which celebrated its Grand Opening in July 2009, was designed and constructed to achieve LEED Certification utilizing a number of sustainable strategies including sustainable site, energy and water efficiency, material use, and indoor environmental quality. The project also received Innovation in Design credits for exemplary performance in Regional Materials and Construction Waste Management. The Construction Waste Management credit was achieved entirely through Knutson¹s job site
waste management processes and procedures. “The proper management of construction waste is critical to protecting the environment. As a firm, this will be a priority for each Knutson project whether pursuing LEED certification or not”, stated Todd Schilling, General Manager and Vice President of Knutson Construction Services.
The Frauenshuh Cancer Center is the new home for all of Park Nicollet¹s cancer care and radiation therapy services. The innovative design provided Park Nicollet the opportunity to not only centralize these services, but also apply their new model of care that allows patients to stay in their room while all cancer care services are brought to them. The project also addressed a long-standing campus parking need by adding a 1,700 car parking ramp for both patient and staff use.
