Knutson Awarded Construction of the Cedar Rapids Public Library
IOWA CITY, IOWA – October 21, 2011 – Knutson Construction is proud to announce we have been awarded the $13.5 million Public Library, by the City of Cedar Rapids. Construction is anticipated to begin in December and completion is scheduled for the summer of 2013. The new 95,000 square foot facility is replacing the building devastated by the flood of 2008, and will be in a new downtown location, across from Greene Square Park.
The new library boasts a 200-seat auditorium, a café with a pick-up window, conference center, and a roof garden plaza with a skywalk connection to a parking ramp. The library also features such sustainable construction as a vegetated green roof, permeable concrete paving and a rain water collection system.
