The Hiawatha Maintenance Facility meets key guidelines for energy savings, efficiency and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, making it one of the greenest buildings in the state and the greenest garage facility in the country. It is located on a nine (9) acre site and is comprised of approximately 33,000 sq. ft. of office/staff space and 25,000 sq. ft. of shop space. The new facility houses the city’s equipment and materials for street and bridge maintenance and for paving and sewer construction. The grounds also include 250,000 square feet of yard space.
