The building included a 6,000 sq. ft. optometrist’s office and a 2,000 sq. ft. dental office. The wood frame exterior was comprised of fiber-cement board siding, pre-cast stone, brick, and copper-barrel roof along with additional copper accents. The interior finishes were highlighted by radius walls, many layers of soffits, detailed millwork, copper column capitals and copper frame displays. The building featured cutting edge technology, with LCD flat screen televisions in the waiting rooms, display areas and examination rooms.
Dr. Heying was a very involved owner, he and his family self-performed the interior painting and installed the ceramic tile and granite counter tops often were referred to as “Heying and Son Painting.” Dr. Heying and his father worked side-by-side with the rest of the contractors throughout the project. “Multiple times, we were asked by other workers on-site how work was going and if we had picked up any other painting work. They didn’t know I was the owner and that my dad and I were self-performing the painting. It really made us feel like we were part of the construction team,” said Dr. Heying.
