The original Alpha Chi Omega Sorority House suffered destruction from a tornado that ravaged the Iowa City area on April 13th, 2006.  Although not a Design-Build contract, Knutson was contracted during the design phase to consult with constructability, schedule and budget of the 16,500 square foot, four-story rebuild.

The site was re-graded and retaining walls added to take advantage of the two-lot property.  The lower level contains the kitchen and dining hall.  The main level consists of the grand entry, two lounges, a chapter room, and the house director's residence.  The upper two floors are the bunk rooms (13 units), restrooms and laundry facilities.  Vertical travel is provided by two stair towers and a hydraulic elevator.  The addition of a 65,000 square foot, underground, 36 stall parking structure and two driveways were required due to revised Iowa City building codes.
