On Sunday, May 25, 2008, a devastating EF5 tornado struck the town of Parkersburg, Iowa. It destroyed one-third of the town, including the local MidWestOne Bank, built by Knutson in 2003. MidWestOne contacted Knutson the following day and by Tuesday morning our crew was on site. Our main focus was getting the bank’s property protected and assisting to ensure proper documentation was provided for insurance claims and processing. The next goal was to erect a temporary bank operations center so that the bank could address their customers and provide community support.

The following week a temporary bank trailer was set up and the demolition and removal of the old structure began. Slight changes were made to the Bank’s original floor plan and the building design was upgraded to meet LEED Certification. Once FEMA and insurance items were in place, Knutson began the reconstruction, and MidWestOne was able to open the doors of their new bank to customers in less than 6 months.
