Due to the ongoing expansion of the Treasure Island Resort & Casino facility as well as the growing community, there was a need to renovate and expand the existing Prairie Island Indian Community (PIIC) Law Enforcement Center and Courtroom. Knutson has a long-standing relationship with the PIIC - we are committed to fostering growth, success, and safety of our local communities. With RSP as our trusted architect, Knutson Construction was able to provide the PIIC with a state-of-the-art Law Enforcement Center and upgraded courtroom facilities. This project consisted of the 2,390 sq. ft. addition of a new courtroom, offices, waiting areas, and clerk area. As well as an 800 sq. ft. remodel of the existing courtroom into a meeting room and additional offices.

Challenges & Solutions

Maintaining Security

We needed to maintain the security of the building during construction due to the importance of the work that was happening inside the occupied spaces. We did this by coordinating and developing a plan with the owner in which we would not cut through or open up the existing building until we had the addition enclosed and secure with all windows and doors installed. Once the cut through was installed, a lockable, secured entrance was installed.

Challenges & Solutions

Building Operations

Knutson needed to work around the operations of the building, which included not performing disruptive work while the court room was in use. All remodel activities were scheduled around the building’s operations. This required extensive scheduling and pre-planning to run smoothly.
