Celebrating Construction Safety Week

Happy Construction Safety Week!

Construction Safety Week is celebrated during the first week of May each year, recognizing the importance of safety within the construction industry. Whether it takes the form of protocols or physical action, commitment to safety is a difference-maker to many companies and employees due to the dangerous nature of the work construction project teams do each day.

To us, there is no greater importance on any job than the safety of our clients, subcontractors, design partners, community, and construction team. Knutson Construction makes safety our number one priority on every project. We’ve even implemented a Zero Incident Safety Culture within our company. We say culture because safety does not just take place in the field. Safety is prioritized throughout everything we do as a company, and is apparent on all of our projects, whether through weekly safety audits, encouraging everyone on the job site to report good-catch safety items, and celebrating safety milestones.

Safety is a deeply rooted mindset for everyone at Knutson, not just a checklist item. We know that each person who interacts with a Knutson job site deserves to get home at the end of the day the same way they arrived – safely, comfortably, and dependably. Consequently, each Knutson employee is coached to understand and implement that safety is everybody’s job. So, when a project does safety right, we celebrate – together!

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, our University of Minnesota Microbial Cell Production Facility (MCPF) project received a MNSHARP Award for their dedication to going beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards. The team has successfully completed over 152,000 safe hours and 453 Safe days with no lost time accidents. A flag was raised in front of the MCPF building to signify the honor, and a celebratory lunch was served to the project team as a thank you for their hard work.

Since the creation of the program in 2004, Minnesota OSHA has only given out 64 of these prestigious awards. The MCPF project marks Knutson’s eighth MNSHARP award designation, an honor we are incredibly grateful for, but ultimately not surprised by – because safety is a value at Knutson, ingrained in us deeply from the start of a project to well beyond its completion.

So, on this Construction Safety Week, we thank all Knutson employees, subcontractors, and project partners for doing their part to keep our job sites safe. Your continued commitment to our Zero Incident Safety Culture ensures everybody returns home safely each and every day.
