Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator will be a key member of Knutson’s IT Team with overlapping skillsets in a mid-sized organization.  This position will be responsible for administering and maintaining company’s on-prem and cloud infrastructure. This position will administer security tools and systems in alignment with corporate security policies, address security vulnerabilities, and participate in security detection and response activities.  This role will implement, optimize, secure, and support the modern workplace that delivers transformative solutions to our Knutson Construction workforce.  Hands-on experience with administration and configuration of M365 services is a must.  This position will also provide 2nd-3rd tier end-user technical support and assists with other IT related projects as needed.

The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Administer and manage on-prem server computing and storage environment
  • Perform vulnerability scans and maintain the patching of systems and 3rd party applications
  • Administration of Microsoft 365 hybrid cloud infrastructure and applications
    • Azure/Active Directory
    • Microsoft Endpoint Manager/Intune
    • Microsoft 365 Defender
    • Exchange Online
    • Microsoft Teams
  • Perform day to day activities within the Active Directory/Azure AD and O365 tenant including managing user accounts, shared mailboxes, dynamic distribution groups, roles, user permissions, security groups, etc.
  • Manage and test data backups ensuring that company data is safe and that backups are performed according to company backup policies
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain security solutions, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems to safeguard company from risks
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and evolving attacks and threat vectors
  • Configuration and deployment of network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls
  • Maintain network/VPN connectivity between all nodes, branch offices and project sites to ensure technology resources are available to the organization.
  • Help create and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  • Infrastructure capacity planning
  • Maintain inventory and documentation of company core infrastructure assets and systems
  • Create technical documents of implementations, break-fix solutions
  • Analyze and monitor for outages, trends, and global issues with Microsoft stack applications and systems
  • Work alongside other IT team members to develop processes, standards, and solutions that help optimize our computing environment and workforce
  • Provide 2nd-3rd tier technical support to end users

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • A strong understanding of system administration (Windows Server, Windows PC, and Active Directory)
  • A strong understanding of Microsoft 365/Azure Active Directory (including Security, Exchange, Endpoint Manager/Intune/Defender, SharePoint, and Teams)
  • Experience with virtualization technology/hyper converged Systems (Preferred: Nutanix)
  • A strong understanding of network administration (Meraki, HP, VPN, etc.)
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and patching of systems
  • Show a strong understanding of backup techniques and infrastructure (Preferred: Veeam Backup and Replication/Veeam Backup for O365)
  • Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • PowerShell scripting and automation
  • Proficiency with core Cybersecurity fundamentals
  • Proficiency with core networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN)
  • Experience with performance monitoring, server/system maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of cloud computing capabilities and limitations, business drivers, virtualization technologies, Infrastructure as a Service, Platform as a Service and Software as a Service Cloud delivery models
  • Customer service focused with strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and establish priorities
  • Highly self-motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic delivery of responsibilities

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years minimum experience as a Systems Administrator administering/managing core IT infrastructure
  • Office 365 experience (E5 specifically, preferred)
  • Microsoft Server/Azure/M365 Certifications preferred
  • Security certifications preferred
