The 39,600 sq. ft. library has a raised access floor throughout most of the building which allows mechanical, electrical, and plumbing pipes to be placed under the floor with minimal ducts and conduits running along the ceiling. The exterior finishes of the building consist of Virginia Stone, cedar siding, a curtain wall storefront, and metal panels.

Hennepin County Library Brooklyn Park sits on a 6.03 acre site and replaces the 15,100 sq. ft. preceding library which was built in 1976.

BIM Case Study

The one-story new library project utilized an access flooring system with 2′-0″ of open space to supply throughout the building. With no subcontractor models available, Knutson’s virtual design team coordinated the entire project in-house with only the design models as a starting point. In addition to MEP coordination, metal wall panels were modeled according to shops drawings prior to fabrication.
